Zlatan Ibrahimovic Appears to Switch Nike for Adidas Amid Manchester United Talk
As one of the most high-profile footballers in the world, every move Zlatan Ibrahimovic makes is analysed in forensic detail. So perhaps it’s little surprise that a potential change of footwear from the reported Manchester United target has caused quite a stir.
Per Goal, the veteran striker has long been signed to Nike and dons the company's boots on the field, a trend that continued in Sweden’s first match at the UEFA European Championship against the Republic of Ireland on Monday. He even has his own hashtag associated with the brand, "#DareToZlatan," per Lee Astley of the Sun.
However, he rocked up at team training on Thursday in Adidas footwear, hinting at a change of sponsorship. Squawka News pointed out the change on its Twitter feed:
The switch has added further fuel to speculation about the player’s future. As a free agent this summer, Ibrahimovic is allowed to move where he pleases, with Andy Burton of Sky Sports News HQ recently reporting that the 34-year-old will have a medical at Old Trafford after agreeing personal terms with the club.
Ibrahimovic’s potential new footwear would fall in line with United’s own association with Adidas. Per Bill Wilson of BBC News, the Red Devils agreed a decade-long deal with the sportswear manufacturer that started in the summer of 2015 worth £750 million.
