WWE SmackDown Spoilers: Complete Results and Analysis for June 2

Erik BeastonMay 31, 2016

AJ Styles, Karl Anderson and Luke Gallows are a united front, and after a three-on-one mugging of John Cena on Raw, The Club rolled into Rockford, Illinois, for this week's SmackDown taping, with their eyes on WWE tag team champions The New Day.

Thanks to our friends at WrestlingInc.com, we have all the spoilers for you.

Styles, fresh off a banner night in his WWE career, battled Kofi Kingston in what would have once been considered a dream match of sorts. With Anderson, Gallows, Big E and Xavier Woods around ringside, the potential for a wild and chaotic main event was high.

After a huge victory in a six-man tag team match to cap off Monday's Raw, four of the competitors in June 19's Money in the Bank pay-per-view battled in tag team action as Dean Ambrose and Sami Zayn squared off with Alberto Del Rio and Kevin Owens. All four men were looking to build momentum ahead of the high-stakes match at the pay-per-view, but only two could.

With Becky Lynch vs. Charlotte announced ahead of time, and appearances by future Hall of Famers The Dudley Boyz and United States champion Rusev rounding out the card, the show promises to be another action-packed one.

What should fans expect, and who emerges victorious on this week's USA Network presentation?

Let's take a look.

Results

  • Fresh off Monday's beating, WWE tag team champions The New Day kicked off the show. They were quickly interrupted by The Club. After some back-and-forth, a match between Kofi Kingston and AJ Styles was booked for the night's main event.
  • Becky Lynch defeated WWE women's champion Charlotte by disqualification. Late in the match, Dana Brooke interfered, necessitating the finish. Before a two-on-one beating could ensue, Natalya hit the ring, making the save. She and Lynch left the heels scurrying to safety to close out the segment.
  • The Dudley Boyz defeated The Golden Truth following Tyler Breeze and Fandango's interference, ensuring the never-ending feud continues.
  • Dean Ambrose and Sami Zayn defeated Kevin Owens and Alberto Del Rio. In the typical pre-Money in the Bank angle, Owens climbed a ladder and grabbed the briefcase, establishing himself as one of the favorites to win the match.
  • United States champion Rusev defeated Jack Swagger in what feels like the thousandth meeting between The Bulgarian Brute and the Real American. After the match, Titus O'Neil made the save, following up on his Monday night confrontation with the titleholder.
  • AJ Styles defeated Kofi Kingston. As one would expect, Big E, Xavier Woods, Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson brawled at ringside, leading to the finish.

Analysis

It is interesting to see how The Club followed up Monday's beatdown of John Cena by targeting the other immensely popular stars on the roster—The New Day. WWE Creative is clearly trying to build the trio into wrestling's most hated faction, and it is off to a great start.

Styles vs. Kingston is a match rife with athleticism. It is also one that fans could only dream of before Styles signed on the dotted line to join WWE earlier this year. Whether it lives up to expectations is the big question as both have evolved as performers since then.

The tag match pitting Ambrose and Zayn against Owens and Del Rio looks like a fantastic one on paper, but those pairings are already so stale, it's likely to be merely good instead of great. The real question is whether Ambrose pins Owens, again, or if Del Rio eats the fall for his team.

Lynch vs. Charlotte, if their NXT meets are any indication, should be very good. Timing is key. Too rushed and it will be a clunky, flawed match that does neither woman any favors.

Titus O'Neil confronting Rusev advances that program, while it appears as though The Golden Truth vs. Breeze and Fandango is a feud destined to live longer than cockroaches.

Overall, this week's show appears to be lacking a spark of sorts, but The Club's reunion follow-up should be enough to warrant checking it out.
