Real Reportedly Offer Ronaldo Two-Year Extension

Wednesday, April 20

According to El Confidencial (h/t AS), Los Blancos are hoping to finalise a new deal with Ronaldo before the start of the summer transfer window, silencing chatter regarding a potential departure in the process. Ronaldo's current deal runs until 2018, and Real want to add two more years onto that.

The Portugal international has been the subject of constant transfer rumours throughout the season, and his agent Jorge Mendes was forced to deny on Tuesday the player had met with Ligue 1 giants Paris Saint-Germain about a summer move, per Cadena Cope (h/t ESPN FC's Mark Rodden).

According to AS, the relationship between Los Blancos and Ronaldo has improved of late after a rocky 2015-16 campaign, and Ronaldo is "happy to consider a deal to 2021." The figures involved are said to be "astronomical," with Real hoping to convince Ronaldo to retire at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu.

The 31-year-old is enjoying another productive season, having scored 31 goals in 33 La Liga outings so far this campaign, per WhoScored.com. And with Barcelona slipping in the Spanish title race, Real suddenly find themselves within a single point of the top spot in the standings.

Per the report, president Florentino Perez feels he "has no option but to renew or sell" when it comes to Ronaldo. The Portuguese star is still the team's most gifted and productive forward, but given his age, his performances will start to take a hit at some point in the near future.

His value will only drop from this point onwards, so any commitment between the club and the player this summer would likely be Ronaldo's last major deal with a top team.
