Jamie Vardy Given Extended FA Ban for Improper Conduct: Latest Details, Reaction

Matt JonesApr 25, 2016

Leicester City’s Jamie Vardy was handed an additional one-match ban after the Football Association upheld the misconduct charge he picked up following the clash with West Ham United on April 17.

The FA confirmed the sanction on Tuesday in a statement on their website. Additionally, Vardy has been hit with a £10,000 fine as well as being warned about his behaviour. The Foxes have also been slapped with a £20,000 penalty due to a failure to control their players.

The striker was dismissed in the 2-2 draw against the Hammers after picking up a second yellow card for simulation. He then reacted angrily to referee Jon Moss' decision, resulting in his charge by the FA.

In addition to the match Vardy missed against Swansea City on Sunday, he'll also miss Leicester's trip to face Manchester United at Old Trafford this weekend, where a win would seal the Foxes' historic Premier League triumph.

The Foxes currently top the standings by seven points after a sensational season. They lead Tottenham Hotspur, their only major challengers at this point, with just three games remaining in the campaign.

Vardy’s work rate, versatility and searing pace have been vital to their efforts throughout 2015-16, and the England forward has unearthed an unprecedented composure in front of goal.

Squawka Football summed up just how much of a threat he’s been in the final third in this memorable term for the Foxes:

One sensed there was always going to come a spell when Leicester were going to have to show they were able to cope without their talismanic forward, though.

Now, there will be another opportunity in the next game for the rest of the Leicester squad to show they’re not wholly reliant on a couple of star names. Indeed, the forward brought on against West Ham and started against Swansea City, Leonardo Ulloa, will offer a different kind of threat.

Still, so critical is Vardy to the way manager Claudio Ranieri sets his team up, the Italian will have to completely change without his star striker.

Despite beating the Swans 4-0 without Vardy, there will be plenty at the King Power Stadium who would have loved to have the 29-year-old in the lineup for the biggest match in the club's history.

The former Fleetwood Town man clearly let his frustrations get the better of him, and you’d suspect that with tense moments to come this season, he’ll have learned how to keep his cool for the final games he’s involved in.

Vardy will hope his team-mates can preserve that buffer and bring home the title in his absence.
