Real Madrid Transfer News: Neymar Bid Expected, Latest Toni Kroos Exit Rumours

Rory MarsdenApr 6, 2016

Real Madrid are reportedly preparing to make a bold summer move to sign Brazilian star Neymar from archrivals Barcelona, according to a source close to the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium club.

Sports Illustrated's Grant Wahl reported that Los Blancos, Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain all believe Barca may be willing to sell Neymar, 24, because of their "growing debt problems."

Wahl wrote: "If [Real] is able to avoid its FIFA transfer ban until after this summer, look for the Spanish giant to make a serious run at landing Barcelona star Neymar during the next transfer window, a source close to the Real Madrid bosses says."

Wahl's report revealed that a deal for Real to previously sign Neymar from Santos was "98 per cent done," and he even had a medical with the club before eventually joining Barca in 2013.

Even if that is true, the likelihood of Real signing the forward now is very slim indeed.

Few players ever cross the Barca-Real divide. Current Blaugrana boss Luis Enrique and Portugal legend Luis Figo are two to have transferred directly between the two clubs, but it is an incredibly rare occurrence.

To have any chance of signing Neymar, Real would have to smash their own world transfer record—the £85 million they paid Tottenham Hotspur for Gareth Bale back in 2013.

PSG are reportedly prepared to shell out €193 million (£155.2 million) for the Brazil captain, a fee Real would have to match or better, per L'Equipe (via Sport Witness):

Neymar would arguably be worth it. He has proved this season he is only getting better, and he is the heir apparent to Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo as the world's best player.

He has netted 21 times and provided 10 assists in La Liga this season and will likely be at his peak for the next six or seven years, per WhoScored.com.

However, it is highly unlikely Neymar wants to leave Barca and out of the question that anyone at the Catalan club would want to see him join Real even if he does depart.

At Barca, Neymar is part of arguably the best attacking trio of all time alongside Messi and Luis Suarez.

He could potentially be set to win a second consecutive treble this season under Enrique, and the idea that Barca would be prepared to strengthen their fiercest rivals by selling Neymar to them is somewhat absurd.

Elsewhere, Real are reportedly set to be subject to a bid for one of their key players, with Toni Kroos continuing to be linked with Manchester United.

According to Alex Harris in the Daily Star, United are prepared to spend £40 million on the German international in the summer.

And Kroos' brother, Felix, believes he could be a success in the Premier League, per AS (via Harris):

"

If you’re able to play a great ball, you’ll fit in anywhere.

I don’t think England would be a problem for Toni. The only adjustment would be missing Christmas.

There is always a lot of talk around England and Spain. You should only believe something when it is certain.

"

Certainly Kroos' metronomic passing ability makes him a huge asset at the highest level, and he would be a key addition for United in keeping their midfield organised, per WhoScored:

However, given how crucial he is to Real manager Zinedine Zidane, it seems likely that only a huge bid would make the Spanish giants even consider selling him on.
