Hideo Itami, Tye Dillinger and Latest WWE NXT Developmental News
Hideo Itami and Tye Dillinger are in WWE NXT headlines for a reason they don't want to be—injuries.
Itami has been out for months with a damaged shoulder. The latest update on his recovery is disheartening. It doesn't look like he's headed back to the ring any time soon.
As for Dillinger, it's not yet clear the severity of his own injury, but he went down in pain at a recent NXT show.
In other news, WWE officials are reportedly mulling over promotions for some top prospects, two women from WWE Tough Enough made their in-ring debuts and The Hype Bros earned an opportunity alongside the main roster.
Tye Dillinger Injured
1 of 5Tye Dillinger came away limping after an NXT show in Detroit.
PWInsider.com's Mike Johnson reported, "He landed badly on his left leg after reversing a move in his match against Sami Zayn." Dave Meltzer noted on F4WOnline that Dillinger collapsed "when landing reversing out of a vertical suplex against Sami Zayn, apparently blowing out his right knee."
News on how badly hurt The Perfect 10 is has yet to emerge. Look for updates from the doctors shortly.
If it keeps him out of action for significant time, he is in danger of losing the decent momentum he was building. The roster is becoming increasingly crowded. Even low-rung spots are hard to come by.
Rumored Plans for Samoa Joe, Sami Zayn and Finn Balor
2 of 5Are we going to soon see Samoa Joe, Sami Zayn and Finn Balor on Raw?
Those top three prospects are in the conversation about who makes it to the main roster next. According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter (h/t Wrestling Inc), WWE is planning on calling Joe up to the main roster after WrestleMania 32. There has also been consideration recently of bringing up Zayn to feud with Kevin Owens.
As for Balor, WWE reportedly wants to keep him at NXT for now, continuing to make him the face of that brand.
All three of them would make a major impact on the main roster. It's just a matter of timing and presentation. If they get treated like AJ Styles has thus far, count on all three thriving.
WWE, though, has to balance bringing up the best talent and keeping NXT a strong brand of its own. The latter element is going to keep hugely gifted wrestlers like Balor away from the main roster longer than they should be.
NXT Prospects Make Debut
3 of 5As Greg Parks of PW Torch reported, both Sara Lee and Mandy Rose competed in a tag team match at an NXT live event in Venice, Florida. It was each woman's in-ring debut.
Lee and Rose both competed on the WWE Tough Enough reality show.
It's good to see WWE taking its time with these prospects, letting them cut their teeth at house shows. Perhaps the company learned its lesson from throwing Eva Marie and JoJo Offerman into the fire too soon. WWE had Marie and Offerman appear on Raw way before they were ready.
Wrestling is a difficult endeavor. Keep letting these women learn it in low-risk situations.
Hideo Itami Injury Update
4 of 5Stay patient. Hideo Itami may remain on the sidelines for some tie.
According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter (h/t Wrestle Zone), Itami is experiencing complications related to his shoulder surgery. He is reportedly not close to returning to action.
That's unfortunate. Itami never really got to get his NXT career going. In his absence, Finn Balor (who debuted around the same time as him) has become a top star and the NXT champ.
Itami is clearly going to have to keep waiting before he can attempt to match those achievements. When he gets back, he will find the roster boasting a host of new faces from Apollo Crews to Shinsuke Nakamura.
The Hype Bros Work with the Main Roster
5 of 5Mojo Rawley and Zack Ryder left Full Sail University to travel with the main roster.
The duo worked a dark match before the Main Event taping on Feb. 2, per ProFightDB.com. Rawley and Ryder teamed up against The Dudley Boyz. The Hype Bros also worked the house show in Columbus, Georgia, over the weekend.
These kinds of opportunities are no guarantee of a call-up, but they often precede promotions. If WWE decides to bring Rawley to the main roster, it will be a shock to many. The hyped powerhouse hasn't developed much during his time at NXT.
He's been struggling to reach his potential while teams such as Dash and Dawson and American Alpha feature wrestlers who have grown tremendously.
