Leicester vs. Liverpool: Jurgen Klopp Talks Transfers, Pep Guardiola in Presser

Christopher SimpsonFeb 1, 2016

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp admitted the Reds are unlikely to make any deadline-day signings when he addressed the media ahead of the Reds' midweek trip to Leicester City.

He also praised Pep Guardiola following the announcement on Monday he will be taking over at Manchester City in the summer—as confirmed in a statement on the club's website.

Per James Pearce of the Liverpool Echo, he said:

Though Reds fans may be disappointed with the news that no business will be done, he added a positive update on the club's injury situation:

Klopp was also asked if he had any advice for the incoming Guardiola:

The German will be familiar with locking horns with the Spaniard—currently in charge at Bayern Munich—from his time as head coach of Borussia Dortmund. Despite the warm welcome, Klopp will undoubtedly be hoping to get the better of Guardiola, who twice beat him to the Bundesliga title.

He did suggest Guardiola would have to adapt to the weather, per the Times' Tony Barrett:

On a more serious note, he elaborated, according to Pearce:

Despite the Reds playing nine fixtures in January and facing another seven in February courtesy of their progression to the Capital One Cup final and a replay in the FA Cup, Klopp had no complaints at the hectic schedule:

Neither do his players, according to Liverpool's official Twitter feed:

Lastly, Klopp ran the rule over Liverpool's high-flying opponents, who find themselves leading an unlikely title challenge as they sit in first place in the Premier League. According to Pearce, he said:

"

People talk about [Riyad] Mahrez and [Jamie] Vardy but whole team concentrated and focused. What they are going is great. I praised them but we aren't the supporters club of Leicester. We want to go there and challenge them. It's counter-attacking football at its best. They have a plan but we know about it.

"

The Reds are one of just two teams to beat the Foxes in the Premier League this season having narrowly triumphed over them 1-0 on Boxing Day, and they were also the first side to stop them from scoring.

Claudio Ranieri's side have endured some slightly mixed form in the aftermath of that defeat, but they haven't lost in the league since and have picked up impressive wins against Tottenham Hotspur and Stoke City in their last three.

Liverpool will be flying high after progressing to the League Cup final, but after such a demanding month of fixtures there remains a question mark over their ability to compete with Leicester fitness-wise, particularly as the Foxes had the weekend off rather than competing in the FA Cup.

Leicester have an excellent combination of pace, work rate and physicality in their side, so it could be a difficult game for Liverpool on Tuesday.
