Twitter Is Shocked as Liverpool's Dejan Lovren Is Nominated for Monthly Award

There was a strange feeling around Liverpool on Sunday as the Reds visited St James' Park.

No, it wasn't that their resurgence under manager Jurgen Klopp had been halted, falling to a 2-0 defeat against 19th-placed Newcastle.

It was that Dejan Lovren, the often-maligned central defender, was one of Liverpool's better players.

His form was confirmed on Thursday when the Premier League released its shortlist for Player of the Month. The usual suspects were there: Jamie Vardy, Harry Kane and Romelu Lukaku, along with some of November's better performers in Ross Barkley and Troy Deeney.

And then there was Lovren.

The Croatian has endured a difficult start to life at Anfield since joining from Southampton, but the introduction of Klopp and an injury to Mamadou Sakho has seen his form improve.

Liverpool, who are seventh in the Premier League table, visit Sion in the Europa League on Thursday, before hosting West Brom on Sunday in the Premier League.
