Leicester City forward Jamie Vardy equalled the record for scoring in 10 consecutive Premier League matches on Saturday, tying Manchester United's Ruud van Nistelrooy with a superb strike against Newcastle United.

Bleacher Report UK were among the first to congratulate the England international:

The in-form striker struck just before half-time, taking control of the ball on the left side of the box and cutting inside before unleashing a powerful drive that gave goalkeeper Robert Elliot no chance.

Vardy has been the ultimate Cinderella story in 2015-16, guiding Leicester City to the top half of the Premier League standings with his timely goals.

What makes the 28-year-old's story so special is that as recently as the 2011-12 campaign, he was playing at a level well below the Premier League, via beIN Sports' Richard Keys:

The scoring streak started late in August at Vitality Stadium, where Vardy scored a late penalty to salvage a 1-1 draw at Bournemouth. During the 10 matches, Vardy has bagged a brace on two occasions, against Arsenal and Southampton

Unsurprisingly, he leads the Premier League's top scorers' rankings by a big margin. At the time of writing, his 13 goals were four more than Everton's Romelu Lukaku.

Fellow footballer Joey Barton congratulated the Foxes star:

Per BBC Sport, both Vardy and Van Nistelrooy scored their record goals at St. James' Park, and in a twist worthy of a Hollywood film, Vardy will have the chance to break the record against the Dutchman's former club next week.

Manchester United's defence has been very solid of late, as the Red Devils have conceded just nine goals all season, the best mark in the Premier League, per WhoScored.com.

Breaking Van Nistelrooy's record won't be easy, but given Vardy's superb form, you wouldn't bet against the Leicester City man.
