Ray-Ray Armstrong Investigated for Allegedly Taunting Police Dog

Oakland Raiders linebacker Ray-Ray Armstrong was under investigation for allegedly taunting a police dog Sunday while the team was at Heinz Field for its Week 9 matchup with the Pittsburgh Steelers, according to Marcie Cipriani of WTAE.com.

Following the investigation, Pennsylvania authorities determined Armstrong did not act maliciously in the event, per the Associated Press, via ESPN:

"The sheriff and prosecutor have agreed that the player's behavior was not a malicious act but still created an unnecessary security risk. The dog had to be taken out of service after the incident."

Rich Walsh of CBS Pittsburgh shared a statement from Allegheny County Sheriff's Office Chief Deputy Kevin Kraus:

We were immediately notified about the incident, and we immediately initiated a criminal investigation into the matter. Sheriff's Office supervisors interviewed witnesses and reviewed video surveillance recordings at Heinz Field. We notified the District Attorney's Office on Sunday. The Sheriff's Office is currently reviewing all of the information and reports to make a final determination relating to charges.

Armstrong, 24, allegedly "lifted his shirt, pounded on his chest and began barking at the dog as he was heading toward the field for the game," according to Cipriani. In Pennsylvania, taunting a police dog is considered a third-degree felony, which carries a maximum penalty of seven years in prison and a $15,000 fine.

No charges have been filed at this time.

In his third season out of Miami (Florida), Armstrong has compiled 19 tackles and one sack so far this season. He's started two games and is listed as Aldon Smith's backup on the team depth chart.
