Video: Sonny Bill Williams Gives World Cup Winner's Medal to Pitch-Invading Boy
The medal you get for winning the World Cup would surely be one of the most prized pieces of memorablia a player could ever get—but Sonny Bill Williams gave his away after being moved by a pitch invader shortly after New Zealand triumphed at Twickenham.
The young boy charged on to the field and was about to be escorted away by stewards until Williams intervened.
He later told One News (via the Guardian):
"If that was a younger brother or cousin I would have given the security guard a hiding. But I just picked the kid up and took him back to his old lady and tried to make the night more memorable for him. Better [for the medal] to be hanging around his neck than mine."
Williams was also part of the winning team in 2011.
Update
World Rugby clearly admired Williams' gesture and decided to issue him with a new medal at the post-tournament awards dinner.
