Randy Orton vs. Bray Wyatt Feud Would Take WWE's Fall Season by Storm

Graham GSM MatthewsOct 1, 2015

A feud between Randy Orton and Bray Wyatt has been a long time coming, and it's only inevitable they clash one-on-one.

As seen on this week's Raw, it appears Roman Reigns' raging rivalry with Wyatt is on the verge of winding down. After trading several wins in singles and tag team action over the past few months, Reigns speared Wyatt through the commentary table to close the show, seemingly culminating the rivalry.

Thus, it begs the question of where this would leave Wyatt going forward, and the most logical route to take would be to place him a program with Randy Orton.

Orton was the victim of a Wyatt Family ambush on the Sept. 7 edition of Raw, putting him out of action indefinitely and ensuring he couldn't team with Reigns and Dean Ambrose against the bearded clan at Night of Champions. He returned to Raw two weeks later and immediately set his sights on exacting his revenge against the Wyatts.

A six-man tag team match pitting Reigns, Ambrose and Orton against The Wyatt Family is bound to happen sooner rather than later, but once that's over with, it's likely Orton transitions into a singles rivalry with Wyatt.

WWE has done a decent job of building Wyatt back up as of late. After floundering for the first half of 2015, he finally found his groove in reuniting with the rest of the family, which should have never split up to begin with.

The biggest issue the Wyatt character has faced is not being able to win when it matters most. Despite being made to look strong in defeat against the legendary likes of The Undertaker and John Cena, he wasn't better off after either of those WrestleMania matches.

Granted, he won his six-man tag team match at Night of Champions, but it was Braun Strowman who picked up the victory for the trio. At SummerSlam, he was pinned clean in the middle of the ring by Reigns, so he needs a major victory to re-establish himself as a legitimate threat.

Orton, on the other hand, is in the perfect place right now in his career. He's enjoyed a fun tweener run since the start of the year but has been wasted in a tired feud with longtime rival Sheamus.

As a seasoned veteran, Orton can take a clean loss or two and it wouldn't hinder his popularity. He just needs to be mixing it up with fresh faces, and Wyatt is the ideal opponent for the Apex Predator to close out 2015 with.

Since arriving on the WWE scene a little over two years ago, Wyatt has yet to cross paths with Orton. In fact, the only interaction they've ever had came in January 2011 when Orton punted the former Husky Harris in the skull, effectively writing him out of storylines.

Of course, that wouldn't be acknowledged due to the sheer fact that WWE pretends the Harris persona never existed, but it would be interesting for Wyatt to bring up how it was Orton who caused him to "see the light."

Furthermore, the matches they could contest would be nothing short of solid given the exceptional in-ring abilities of both men, in addition to how strong the promos could be given their similar psychotic personas.

Most importantly, a win against Orton would provide Wyatt with the boost needed to reclaim his top spot on the roster. Having had his talent marginalized for well over a year, it's time for Wyatt to cement himself as a star on the rise and shift his focus to championship gold going into WrestleMania.

With Seth Rollins vs. Kane bound to last through the end the of the year, WWE is in need of a hot angle for the fall season, and Orton vs. Wyatt could be exactly what fans have been longing for.
