Recap

It didn't take long for the tournament's top player to drop out of the action.
Aljaz Bedene eliminated No. 1 Gilles Simon on Tuesday in an epic match that required three tiebreakers. While Bedene fought for his life and deserves full credit for the upset win, it was a huge disappointment for the tournament's top seed, who perhaps got caught thinking ahead to the U.S. Open.
Simon wasn't the only high seed to disappoint, as No. 5 Guillermo Garcia-Lopez also bowed out early against Yen-Hsun Lu.
No one can accuse Jerzy Janowicz of the same, as the No. 16 seed had revenge on his mind against Lukas Rosol, who beat him in last year's final at this event. This year, Janowicz flipped the script with a straight-sets win.
"I lost after having match points exactly one year ago, so this was an important match for me today," Janowicz told ATPWorldTour.com. "I'm playing very good tennis now so I'm happy. I feel really good. Last week (in Cincinnati) I played really decent tennis, but I'm avoiding mistakes."
He spoke in more detail about the contest after the match.
No. 2 seed Kevin Anderson might be describing his tennis as only "decent" right now after he needed all three sets to knock off Mikhail Kukushkin, dropping the first set before rallying. He'll next face Janowicz in what should be an entertaining, competitive matchup.
No. 11 seed Jiri Vesely didn't have much trouble against Martin Klizan, meanwhile, while Steve Johnson's 15 aces were enough to get him past Sam Groth.
