8-Year-Old with Cerebral Palsy Bailey Matthews Completes Triathlon

Sean FayJul 29, 2015

Now this is what you call a true champion.

Young Bailey Matthews has cerebral palsy, but he doesn't let that stop him from chasing his sporting dreams.

The eight-year-old from Doncaster, England, was the undoubted star of the show at Castle Howard last weekend, as he completed his first triathlon ever.

As per the Yorkshire Post, Bailey completed a 100-metre lake swim, a 4,000-metre bike ride and 1,300-metre run.

He had a walking frame to help him, but Bailey crossed the line unaided and got the adulation from the crowd his incredible efforts so richly deserved.

His father Jonathan said

"

The majority of what he does is self-propelled. He sets his own goals when he is swimming and says ‘I am going to do x amount of metres today.' He is more than eager to get out and do something. If we can make that easier for him then that it what we will do.

The response has been quite overwhelming. One lady asked us if he did it as a sponsorship thing, but he just did it because it was something he wanted to do.

"

While his mother Julie added: "Bailey has always been very determined. If he wants to do something he will find a way to do it, even if it is not the conventional way."

Bailey, you are an inspiration to us all.
