John Cena Injury: Updates on WWE Star's Nose and Recovery

Joseph ZuckerJul 27, 2015

Nobody has ever questioned John Cena's commitment to WWE. On the July 27 edition of Raw, he further cemented that commitment by continuing to wrestle in the main event against Seth Rollins after suffering a broken nose, which ultimately required surgery.

After a two-week layoff, Cena accepted Rollins' SummerSlam challenge for one of the biggest matches of the summer, set to take place Aug. 23, John Clapp of WWE.com confirmed. With Cena owning the United States Championship and Rollins owning the WWE World Heavyweight Championship, the winner of the match will own both titles.

On his road to recovery after the injury, Cena posted a statement and a video on Twitter following his Aug. 3 workout:

Justin LaBar of WrestleZone.com reported on July 30 the purpose of the surgery was to correct breathing issues and noted more reconstructive surgery could be required.

During a match July 27, Rollins kneed Cena in the face, and WWE Universe provided a GIF of the infamous blow:

Anthony DiMoro of SportsRants.com captured a snapshot when the camera zoomed in on the injury, and the results weren't pretty:

Dr. Steve Daquino told WWE.com Cena's nose was broken:

"

As you can see on television tonight, John suffered from a nasal fraction. He's got quite a bit of displacement, so we sent him over to the local emergency room so he can be evaluated by the ears, nose and throat doctor who's on call tonight and see what can be done to properly repair it.

"

If history has taught us anything, it's that Cena can overcome the odds and he'll look to do just that against Rollins at SummerSlam.
