Jose Mourinho: Now All Chelsea's Rivals Are Trying to Buy Premier League Title
Jose Mourinho and Chelsea had a reputation for spending their way to the Premier League title, but now the Portuguese manager says the tables have turned.
Mourinho won back-to-back titles in 2004/05 and 2005/06 with the Blues, as Chelsea spent owner Roman Abramovich's millions to improve the team.
While the situation is different now as Mourinho attempts to repeat the feat, it is still an interesting claim.
Mourinho said, via Sky Sports:
"In the beginning of Mr. Abramovich coming to Chelsea, Chelsea was buying the title.
Now, they are buying the title. All of them, they are buying the title.
It is up to us to be strong and to fight them and, obviously, to try and win it again, even without the big investments.
"
Mourinho has certainly spent heavily on new recruits in his second stint at Stamford Bridge, but that money has been offset by notable big-money sales, such as Juan Mata's departure to Manchester United, David Luiz's to Paris Saint-Germain and Romelu Lukaku's to Everton.
United, who have fallen away, have spent lavishly to return to the top of English football. Meanwhile, Manchester City, fuelled by wealthy owners of their own, have also spent big.
Does Mourinho have a point or is he just stirring the pot once again?
