WWE SmackDown Spoilers: Complete Results and Analysis for July 23

Erik BeastonJul 21, 2015

Few wrestlers have captured the attention of the WWE Universe in recent weeks the way Cesaro has. On Tuesday night's SmackDown taping, it became clear that WWE Creative finally has a plan for The Swiss Superman.

A plan that includes a non-title match with WWE world heavyweight champion Seth Rollins.

Add to that the budding rivalry between with his fellow Ring of Honor alumnus Kevin Owens, and you have one of the hottest stars in the industry right now featured on this week's SyFy broadcast.

Cesaro is not the only competitor to grab hold of the spotlight on this week's show.

"The Lunatic Fringe" Dean Ambrose kicks off the broadcast with a singles bout against Sheamus. Can the former No. 1 contender rebound after a disappointing July, or will Mr. Money in the Bank thwart his attempt to get back on track?

And what roles will Bray Wyatt and Luke Harper have in the outcome of that contest?

Those two matches and much more unfolded Tuesday night as WWE rolled into Lincoln, Nebraska, for this week's SmackDown taping.

Now you can find out everything you can expect to see this Thursday night, courtesy of our friends at WrestlingInc

  • Seth Rollins pinned Cesaro following a Pedigree. After the match, Owens laid Cesaro out with the pop-up powerbomb.

Analysis

The potential is certainly there for Thursday's show to be a great one from an in-ring perspective.

Cesaro vs. Seth Rollins sounds like a fantastic match, especially if the two ring generals are given enough time to work their magic. Both men are exceptional in-ring performers, and Cesaro has been on an absolute roll in recent weeks, something that will heighten expectations for Thursday's main event. Add to it the element of Kevin Owens, and you have a potentially explosive scenario.

Speaking of the former NXT champion, Owens vs. Rusev is a heel vs. heel match that should be interesting to watch, if only to answer the question of which Superstar plays the role of babyface.

Ambrose and Sheamus have wrestled numerous times, but both are good enough to come up with a match fans have not seen before. With Wyatt and Harper getting involved, though, one has to wonder how much attention is put on the match and how much is simply the background for the storyline development.

The Divas have the opportunity to shine once more, Neville and Stardust's rivalry continues to intensify and King Barrett gets some promo time to try to turn his lackluster reign over WWE into something interesting and worthwhile.

As SummerSlam approaches, every second of WWE programming will be used to help build something for that monumental show. This is no different, and it's definitely a show worth catching, especially if you are a fan of Cesaro.
