Roger Federer vs. Robin Soderling

2009 US Open Tennis Quarterfinals

Roger Federer

World No. 1 Roger Federer continued his impressive run towards a sixth consecutive US Open title with a straight sets win over Spaniard Tommy Robredo in the fourth round.

Federer has only dropped one set so far en route to this quarterfinal match with Robin Soderling, and the No. 1 seed has been in fine form so far, dispatching Lleyton Hewitt, Simon Greul, and Devin Britton in addition to Robredo.

Robin Soderling

Robin Soderling has continued his impressive 2009 with a quarterfinals berth in the US Open after a fourth round victory over Russian Nikolay Davydenko. The Swede was leading two sets to one when Davydenko was forced to retire.

Twelfth-seed Soderling has so far overcome Sam Querrey, Marcel Granollers, and Albert Montanes in addition to Davydenko and has reached his first ever quarterfinal at the US Open, after previously only reaching as far as the third round.

Prediction

When it comes to Federer vs. Soderling meetings, it's all Federer with an incredible 11-0 head-to-head scoreline in favour of the Fed Express.

The two players have met three times in 2009 so far, with Federer overcoming Soderling at the ATP Madrid, the fourth round at Wimbledon, and at the final of the French Open.

With the Swiss Maestro in his typical incredible form, it looks as if it will be the fourth victory for the year against the Swede, as Federer continues his unstoppable run to yet another Grand Slam final.

Prediction: Federer in three sets
