Novak Djokovic v Philipp Kohlschreiber

World No. 1 Novak Djokovic faces a tough test in his opening gambit at Wimbledon against the much fancied Philipp Kohlschreiber of Germany.

The player is ranked 33rd in the world—and his nation's No. 1—so he will feel unlucky to just miss out on a seedings berth in London.

The German will be a tough first hurdle for Djokovic to jump over, but only a huge loss of form will see a shock occurring.

However, Kohlschreiber is a former quarter-finalist at Wimbledon, and he has the talent to cause any opponent issues.

Nick Bollettieri of the Independent highlighted the threat of the Serbian's opponent and feels he will be on the attack, on Monday:

"

Philipp Kohlschreiber is a dangerous opening foe. Kohlschreiber has been around a long time. He has weapons. He’s big and strong with a powerful serve. He moves quite well for a big guy, too.

He’s dangerous, with a puncher’s chance. Djokovic won’t be taking him for granted, nor will Kohlschreiber’s compatriot, Djokovic’s coach Boris Becker. Kohlschreiber has nothing to lose, Djokovic is the top seed, and everyone does what they can to beat a top seed.

I think Kohlschreiber will go for big aggressive shots. There is no point in him just trying to keep the ball in play. He will lose easily if he does that.

"

However, even though it is unlikely to be easy, you cannot predict anything but a win for Djokovic. Kohlschreiber's serve might make it difficult for the No. 1 to break him, but he does not have the all-round game to be able to dominate the Serb.

Serena Williams v Margarita Gasparyan

Barely out of her teens, and appearing at Wimbledon for the first time, Russia's Margarita Gasparyan faces the ultimate test in her debut in London when she goes up against world No. 1 Serena Williams.

Williams is chasing a Grand Slam of major titles this year, with two trophies captured and two to play for.

Williams has won 59 of 60 opening-round matches, including a perfect record of 16-0 at Wimbledon, per Nick McCarvel of USA Today, but the young Russian is excited at the prospect of meeting a tennis legend:

"

This is amazing, no? It's my first time playing at Wimbledon and in the first round I play Serena Williams. She's one of the best. She's a star. It is for me better. It is great. It is amazing for me. I want to play on Centre Court.

However, TV commentator Rennae Stubbs believes it is an impossible mission for the 20-year-old, per McCarvel: "It's a nightmare. Especially here where on the grass where she can win free points off her serve. She's such a presence. There's no one like her to face. It's going to be hard for this kid."

Gasparyan will do well to dent the armoury of Williams, who is playing some of the most sumptuous tennis of her long and distinguished career.

The American is likely to make quick work of her opponent and drive into the next round with consummate ease.

Williams is on the crest of a wave at the moment, and a player from the lower echelons of the game is not going to stop her progress.
