Top Male Contenders

Reigning champion Novak Djokovic is the big favourite to triumph on Centre Court, but the Serbโs preparations for this tournament have been far from ideal.
The world No. 1 was beaten by 18-year-old Alexander Zverev in a warm-up match at The Boodles Tennis Challenge at Stoke Park in Buckinghamshire, England. However, Djokovic was able to get a close look at his Round 1 opponent Philipp Kohlschreiber, as we can see here:
Andy Murray is a man the home crowd will be hoping can challenge the imperious Djokovic. The Scot disappointed at SW19 last year after his maiden triumph in 2013, but after a strong performance on the Roland Garros clay, Murray will be hopeful he can do the business on his preferred surface.

However, he has an awful draw, as we can see here courtesy of Telegraph Sport:
Roger Federer won the Gerry Weber Open for an eighth time in the buildup to this Grand Slam and will be searching for an unprecedented eighth win at Wimbledon. Meanwhile, two-time champion Rafael Nadal is seeded down in 10th place but has shown some promising signs at The Boodles ahead of the tournament.

The Spaniard wasnโt particularly keen on talking about SW19, though, as we can see here courtesy of the Daily Mailโs Sam Cunningham:
Djokovicโs biggest contender en route to the final is likely to be Stanislas Wawrinka, who got the better of the Serb in the Roland Garros final. But Djokovic is a completely different proposition on grass, and heโll make it back-to-back titles at this illustrious venue.
Top Female Contenders

Serena Williams is halfway there. Having already triumphed at the Australian and French Open, the legendary American can etch her name into the history books with wins at Wimbledon and the U.S. Open, completing the annual Grand Slam.
Centre Court is a venue which has served Williams well in the past too, having won this coveted competition five times previously.
However, as noted by Ben Rothenberg of the New York Times, she could face a testing and familiar foe as early as in the fourth round:
There are a plethora of superb players Serena needs to conquer first, though. Perhaps most testing will be reigning Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova, who excelled on these courts back in 2014 and when she won here for the first time in 2011.

As we can see here courtesy of the tournamentโs official Twitter account, the championโs preparations are already well underway:
Another major contender will be Maria Sharapova. The Russian famously won Wimbledon as a 17-year-old but since then has only ever made it back to the Centre Court final on one occasionโin 2011 when she lost to the current champion.

The Russian admitted herself that her only Wimbledon win is beginning to feel increasingly nostalgic:
"For Maria #Sharapova, winning Wimbledon at the age of 17 is "almost like a childhood memory" - http://t.co/7cvzeKdcbx pic.twitter.com/wm1DgzvoBS

Williams may be an easy and obvious pick, but sheโs in the groove at the moment. The American was able to capture the French Open, her 20th Slam trophy, earlier this year despite problems with illness.
Coming into these championships replenished and with a season Grand Slam on the cards, thereโs only going to be one winner in the ladies' draw.
