Wimbledon 2015 Draw: Bracket, Schedule and Preview of Men and Women's Draw

Brian MaziqueJun 26, 2015

Serena Williams' path to a sixth Wimbledon title is stacked with big names and former Grand Slam champions. The draw for the 2015 tournament was released on Friday, and Williams' championship mettle could be put to the test.

The reigning Australian Open and French Open champion could be faced with a route that includes Ana Ivanovic, Maria Sharapova and Victoria Azarenka. Unless there are a number of upsets to the top contenders on Williams' side of the draw, the future Hall of Famer will be forced to earn this Grand Slam title at the expense of players with a wealth of experience.

Courtney Nguyen of SI.com doesn't see this as a major task for Williams to overcome. She writes:

"

A semifinal against either Sharapova or French Open finalist Lucie Safarova is also a possibility, though Sharapova has made it past the fourth round just once since 2006. And given their head-to-head—Sharapova has not beaten Serena in over a decade—that potential semifinal won't have Serena quaking in her Nikes. All in all, with all the question marks surrounding the top seeds in her half, this is a good draw for Serena.

"

Even with the name recognition in Williams' draw, the fact is, she has a career mark of 41-6 against Sharapova, Ivanovic and Azarenka. In fact, this draw could be looked at as favorable when you consider the last three women to beat Williams—Alize CornetSabine Lisicki and Petra Kvitova—are all in the bottom half of the draw.

There's a chance one of them might be waiting for Williams in the finals. We all know that draws are irrelevant if Williams is playing at the top of her game, but if she has a slippage one of these ladies will be looking to take advantage.

The Men's Draw

Djokovic's Path Looks Smooth, Murray Not So Much

Top-seed and defending champion Novak Djokovic's route to another title looks to be much easier than Williams'. All of Djokovic's most storied rivals are on the other side of the draw. That includes Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer and Andy Murray.

While Djokovic won't have to face Nadal, Fed or Murray until the finals—should he or one of the three make it that far—he could face the man who just upset him at the French Open, Stan Wawrinka, in the semifinals.

Wawrinka got the No. 4 seed after his triumphant performance at Roland Garros. Unless one of the two men have a major breakdown, they figure to renew acquaintances in one of the men's semifinals. No. 5 Kei Nishikori is always tough, but he's yet to prove he can consistently knock off the world's top players. He's 3-7 lifetime against Wawrinka and Djokovic.

On the bottom of the men's draw, Andy Murray better lace up his tennis shoes tight. He could have a murderer's row to navigate en route to another Wimbledon title. Per The Odds Bible, here's a look at the last four matches Murray might have to win to hoist the trophy:

He'll need every bit of the love the fans in London are willing to give to navigate those troubling waters. Because of that draw, No. 2 Federer is the man to watch from the bottom of the men's bracket. He may not be seriously challenged until a potential quarterfinals matchup with No. 6 Tomas Berdych.

It will be interesting to see if things hold to form in England or if we see lower seeds wreak havoc on the brackets. Play begins on in just three days. This should be a fun year.
