Jonathan Isaac to Florida State: Seminoles Land 5-Star SF Prospect

Matt FitzgeraldJul 6, 2015

Jonathan Isaac, a 5-star small forward prospect out of IMG Academy in Florida, committed to play college basketball at Florida State on Monday.

IMG Academy had the news of Isaac's big decision.

Composite rankings at 247Sports rate Isaac as the No. 21 overall player in the Class of 2016 and the fourth-best recruit at his position. Few players in this class have the upside he boasts, so the fact that he's already so highly regarded provides an idea of the type of special player he can become.

But in order to have the best possible chance of reaching his seemingly limitless ceiling, Isaac must put on weight. He's listed at 6'10" and only 190 pounds. Although he has shown the ability to finish in the rim, he can be susceptible to punishment when driving into the paint.

What helps Isaac is that he has a supreme, polished perimeter game that allows him to shoot over most defenders without too much bother. He has legitimate three-point range, which causes him at times to fall in love with the jumper.

The more he can assert his will inside, the better an all-around scoring threat he will come to be. Adding muscle is a must for Isaac to do that, though, and that ought to be his top priority entering his first year with Florida State

Isaac has the raw talent to start right away and perhaps be a one-and-done player who makes the leap to the NBA after just one season. His length and athleticism will make him a dynamic two-way force, capable of flexing between the 3 and 4 positions depending on game situations.

The physique and pure stroke bring to mind a young Kevin Durant, who's made his game work despite sporting a rather slim frame. There's no guarantee Isaac can do the same, so he'll either really have to hone his craft in the post while being strong with the ball or really hit the weight room in college.
