UFC Fight Night 66 Results: 5 Fights for Urijah Faber
It had been 10 years since Urijah Faber lost a fight that was not for a WEC or UFC title. It took a world-class competitor in Frankie Edgar to defeat The California Kid in 25 minutes of action.
At 36 years old, Faber may be facing the last chapter of his career. Looking forward, these are interesting fight suggestions for him to take before he calls it a career.
Clay Guida
1 of 5
Clay Guida is currently ranked No. 10 within the featherweight division. The Carpenter has alternated wins and losses since dropping down to 145 pounds in 2013. He is outside of the title picture but still a valuable opponent for anyone who is looking to strengthen his resume. While this fight would not cause immediate change to the title picture, it would be a fun contest to see which of these highly active fighters would take the win. Guida normally outworks his opponents, but Faber is someone that could hang with him for 15 to 25 minutes. Guida vs. Faber would be another high-octane bout with a lot of action to keep fans entertained.
Hacran Dias
2 of 5
Team Alpha Male and Nova Uniao are two of the best teams in MMA. They competed against each other a variety of times, usually in title bouts. Hacran Dias is the No. 14-ranked featherweight. If Faber decides to stay in this division, he could face Dias in a bout that would continue the rivalry between the two groups. Dias has shown that he has the ability to throw powerful leg kicks and use defensive wrestling, which have troubled Faber when facing other Nova Uniao fighters in Jose Aldo and Renan Barao. If Faber is going to get a win against that team, Dias may be the best option.Ā
Raphael Assuncao
3 of 5
Raphael Assuncao is the odd man out in the bantamweight division. He holds a win over T.J. Dillashaw but is often overlooked when talking about the next contenders for the title. He is ranked No. 4 in the weight class and does not have a fight planned at this time. A win over Faber would be the boost that is needed to draw attention to his name and a potential title shot.
They previously fought in 2010 in the WEC.
Francisco Rivera
4 of 5
Francisco Rivera has a bone to pick with Faber after his controversial defeat to him at UFC 181. Rivera was doing well in the first round before an eye poke stunned him and opened up the opportunity for Faber to lock in a bulldog choke.
According to TJ De Santis of Sherdog, Rivera needed eye surgery to repair damage after that bout. Rivera is ranked No. 11 in the bantamweight division and a win over Faber would catapult him into the Top 10.
Cub Swanson
5 of 5
Urijah Faber vs. Cub Swanson would be an action-packed battle with two of the more active men in the featherweight division. Since both are well outside of the title picture, this type of fight would flourish as an opportunity to excite the fans and present a valuable fight during a free, televised event. Swanson uses an aggressive fighting style that would play directly into Faber's counter punching and wrestling abilities. It would be interesting to see if Faber could take Swanson to the ground and control the bout in that area.Ā
