Mayweather vs. Pacquiao: Cable Companies Reportedly Offering Refunds
The Floyd Mayweather vs. Manny Pacquiao fight Saturday evening generated so much hype and interest that many cable providers struggled to keep up with the demand for the pay-per-view fight, and many customers were unable to actually watch the fight they bought.
On Monday, several cable companies began offering refunds to those customers, per Darren Rovell of ESPN:
It's unlikely this will be a small number of customers that are being refunded their money. The fight was delayed for about 45 minutes as various cable companies struggled to iron out issues customers were having either ordering the fight or with their service in general.
Of course, that didn't stop the event from selling like wildfire, even with the issues. Kevin Iole of Yahoo Sports projected the following PPV buys:
Quite frankly, that's an insane figure, even if a good portion of those folks were left disappointed by what was deemed in many circles as a pretty boring, letdown of a fight. Perhaps in the end, the folks being refunded their money were better off after all.
