Every Thursday I will give an update on everything that is happening with South Carolina's football team.

Geathers Injured, Length of Suspension Still Undetermined

As of today, DE Clifton Geathers is still suspended indefinitely for his fight with a bouncer at Club Ice on Lady Street Saturday night. Even if he weren't suspended, he would still miss the NC State game and maybe the Georgia game with an orbital fracture suffered in said fight.

“The big thing about it right now is he’s got a crack on his orbitals and they’ve gotta check that out, see if there’s anything [damaged in] the muscles or nerves or something like that,” assistant head coach for defense Ellis Johnson said. “So he’s out for at least two weeks regardless.”

Steve Spurrier has said he will reserve judgement on Geathers because he does not know the full details and doesn't want to rush to a decision.

Geathers has been charged with resisting arrest, disorderly conduct, and public drunkenness.

I personally think that Geathers was drunk at the bar—where he was celebrating teammate Chris Culliver's birthday—and was either asked to leave or was mad when they closed. He made a less-than-friendly comment and then some 'roided up bouncer hit him. Geathers fought back and once the cops came was trying to struggle free to keep fighting the bouncer. Again, this is all speculation by me.

Either way, the loss of Geathers hurts, but he does have a capable backup in Devin Taylor, who got significant playing time in practice.

NC State Engineering White Out

For next Thursday's season opener at NC State, the Wolfpack are pulling out all the stops.

A "White Out" has been planned, with students being handed white t-shirts that say "BEAT CAROLINA" in red on them. Everyone in the lower bowl will also be handed a red towel to wave, and a noise meter is being built to put in front of the student section.

The ACC gave NC State money to orchestrate this, and they seem to have put it to good use. Hopefully the Gamecocks will not be affected by this, as it still won't be as loud as Williams-Brice.

Hills Leaves Team

Joe Hills left the football team last Friday, a day after being moved to defense. He had originally wanted to transfer to South Florida but will instead be going to Tennessee State because he can play right away and classes have already started at USF.

Ajiboye to Miss First Three Games

This is old news, but in case you forgot, Ladi Ajiboye is out for the first three games (at NC State, at UGA, vs. Florida Atlantic) because of his arrest in Five Points for trying to buy drugs. He is a big loss, but hopefully he will be ready when he comes back for the big showdown against Ole Miss.

Spurrier Trying to Get Sherman on Scholarship

Steve Spurrier is trying to get walk-on Bryce Sherman on scholarship. Sherman walked away from a track scholarship to join the football team, and with Hills' departure, there is a scholarship open. He has dazzled in practice, darting around players with his 5'6" frame. If you need further proof, look at his high school highlights.

Betting Line for the Game

On BetOnline.com NC State is a 4-point favorite.

Recruiting Update

As of right now, USC has three four-star commits (DT Kelsey Quarles, OL A.J. Cann, OL Eric Mack) and a plethora of talented three-star commits, including QBs Connor Shaw and Dylan Thompson and WR Sean Tapley.

We are still one of Marcus Lattimore's top choices, and are in the running for top-10 recruits Seantreal Henderson and Sharrif Floyd.

So that's it. Hopefully, this is gives you a good feel of what is going on in South Carolina football right now. For more info, go to CockyTalk.com, or the pay-sites GamecockCentral and The Big Spur.
