Roman Reigns Deserves Better Than a Possible Extreme Rules Feud vs. Big Show

Donald WoodApr 13, 2015

Roman Reigns drew an incredible amount of backlash from the WWE Universe following his 2015 Royal Rumble victory, but he earned the respect of many wrestling fans by taking a beating at the hands of Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania 31.

Unfortunately, the company has followed up the momentum and respect Reigns had earned by standing toe-to-toe with Lesnar and taking the clean loss to Seth Rollins by booking him in a lackluster singles feud against Big Show that will likely culminate with a match at Extreme Rules.

Going from the main event of WrestleMania to a secondary singles feud is the right course of action for an inexperienced wrestler like Reigns.

However, putting him against someone the crowd doesn’t respect as a top heel is not the correct choice.

It’s clear that Reigns will ultimately win the feud, but fans want him to get better on the mic and in the ring. Working a series of matches against someone like Big Show won’t help him improve in the ring nor will it allow him to exercise his creativity on the mic.

This will likely be a feud lasting one pay-per-view that will do nothing for Reigns' long-term success.

Add in the fact that the WWE Universe has seen these two men battle many times over the last year, and the fans don’t want this. People are looking for Reigns to be pushed to his limit in the ring and on the mic in order to maximize his talent.

Against Big Show once again, he won't be able to improve.

After main-eventing WrestleMania against Lesnar and taking the loss to Rollins in thrilling fashion, Reigns needed something big to keep his momentum alive. Not only did he lose the No. 1 contender match on Raw, but he is now marred in a feud against Big Show.

Instead of locking horns with a talented performer like Bray Wyatt in a secondary storyline that would create a buzz for both participants, WWE has made the decision to waste him in a battle against Big Show.

For someone who had been treated like the hand-chosen future of the company, his main event push has seemingly been abandoned by decision-makers.

Fans don’t want to see Reigns booked like John Cena, but if Big Show beats him down for the majority of the probable PPV match and the challenger simply overcomes it at the end, then this is the exact issue fans were hoping would be remedied.

Reigns should not be wasting his time with Big Show.
