Allen spent the last five seasons in Philadelphia. A former second-round pick by the Eagles in 2010, he had his share of struggles with the team. He did have a career-high four interceptions and three fumble recoveries in 2014.

The advanced numbers suggest that Allen is starting to find himself. Thomas Maney of Pro Football Focus had the 27-year-old as the sixth-best free-agent safety this offseason:

"

Allen improved in each of the last two seasons following a -13.0 graded 2012. Last season he graded positively in both run defense and coverage while playing primarily as a deep safety, though he also saw snaps near the line of scrimmage and in the slot. Got his hands on six passes in 2014, including four interceptions, which matched his PD total over the previous two seasons.

"

The Raiders are trying to build up their defense with a solid young core, led by star linebacker Khalil Mack. Allen isn't a star-level player, but he certainly represents a solid investment for the franchise.

It also helps that Allen is starting to show signs of what made him the 37th draft pick five years ago. The Raiders will be thrilled if he keeps evolving with their defense, as they are getting a good under-the-radar player who won't hurt their salary cap.
