Odell Beckham Jr. Says He Was a 'Neymar or Messi' Type of Soccer Player
Even if you don't follow American football, you've probably heard of Odell Beckham Jr.
The New York Giants wide receiver became a viral sensation in his rookie year for his spectacular plays, most notably his now-iconic catch against the Dallas Cowboys:
"In the NFL last night, Odell Beckham Jr. produced what many are saying is the greatest catch they've ever seen https://t.co/61jIcAono1
— Bleacher Report UK (@br_uk) November 24, 2014"
What you might not know is that he was a highly talented soccer player as a youngster too, and his coach was even pushing him for the U.S. national team.
Beckham revealed his footballing ability during a guest appearance on Sky Sports show Soccer AM.
Beckham said that he gave up the game to focus on the American version, as he felt he would have had to move abroad to continue his soccer development, and he didn't want to leave his family.
When asked what type of player he was, OBJ aimed high, revealing he was a "Neymar or Messi" type of player.
Citing the two Barcelona superstars might seem presumptuous, but anybody who watched Beckham this season is probably already convinced he could do whatever he wants.
