Sting Is Obvious Favorite for Victory over Triple H at WWE WrestleMania 2015
When Sting makes his in-ring debut with the WWE at WrestleMania 31, he needs to beat Triple H convincingly and set the stage for a potential matchup against The Undertaker at next year’s marquee pay-per-view.
Sting could be fighting anyone at WrestleMania, and it would still be a spectacle due to the wrestling legend staying away from the company for his entire career. As the face of the WCW and TNA for over two decades, many wrestling fans believed they’d never see the day Sting stepped into a WWE ring.
Triple H is one of the top on-screen authority figures in the company, and he doesn’t need to beat Sting to be relevant. The match at WrestleMania will be focused on Sting’s arrival and the first staredown in the ring between the two legends of the business. Just as The Rock and Hulk Hogan did in 2002, this match will be about the moment more than the actual moves and holds being applied in the bout.

For the WWE, giving Sting the win is a no-brainer. As the triumphant face who is in the WWE to fight for good against a tyrant such as Triple H, the company will be marketing him with all its effort, and a victory would help sell merchandise. Just as fans flocked to buy Sting gear when he was fighting against the nWo, the modern-day WWE Universe will do the same as Sting attempts to take down The Authority once again.
The most important reason for a Sting victory at WrestleMania 31 is the possibility that he could eventually square off against The Undertaker in 2016.
The Undertaker is likely returning this year to fight Bray Wyatt, and few wrestling fans believe The Deadman would take back-to-back losses at WrestleMania. Assuming Undertaker beats Wyatt and Sting beats Triple H, the stage would be set for the ultimate dream match between the two unforgettable characters.
There have been many experts who claim that Undertaker should have fought Sting this year, but the WWE is thinking of the big picture. Next year’s WrestleMania takes place at AT&T Stadium in Texas, and the company will be looking to set attendance records in the huge facility.
Booking Sting vs. Undertaker in Texas not only makes sense from a business point of view for the WWE, but it would also satisfy both competitors, who each currently reside in Texas.
Regardless of whether it’s a retirement match for either man, this is the biggest possible payoff.
As great as Triple H has been as the voice and face of the heel authority figures, giving Sting the victory at the 2015 edition of WrestleMania will set the stage for what could be the biggest build to a match in recent wrestling history.
Triple H understands the business aspect of wrestling as well as anyone, and he must give Sting the win.
It is best for business.
