Michael Phelps, Girlfriend Nicole Johnson Announce Engagement

Olympic swimming legend Michael Phelps is exchanging his gold medals for a gold ring. The 22-time Olympic medalist announced his engagement to girlfriend Nicole Johnson early Sunday morning.    

Phelps, 29, has dated Johnson off and on since 2007. The pair reportedly broke up in 2012 but were seen together throughout the last year.

"She said yes," Phelps exclaimed in his Instagram post, equipped with the requisite emojis.

Johnson was named Miss California in 2010. 

"CAN NOT BE MORE EXCITED FOR THE SOON TO BE MR & MRS PHELPS #beautifullove #itsreal #truelove #congrats," Allison Schmitt, who took the photo of Phelps and Johnson, said in her own Instagram post.

Phelps' engagement comes four months into his six-month suspension from competitive swimming due to a DUI arrest in Maryland. The arrest was a violation of USA Swimming's code of conduct.

Phelps entered a treatment facility in October, where he spent 45 days.
