Shad Khan Proposes Wildly Opulent Restoration Plan for Downtown Jacksonville

Dan CarsonFeb 17, 2015

Taking time from his busy schedule of suing local bakeries and yachting across the Atlantic, Jacksonville Jaguars owner Shad Khan has proposed a sweeping and dramatic waterfront restoration of downtown Jacksonville, Florida.

According to the team's official website, Khanโ€™s vision calls for a complete overhaul of the deserted Jacksonville Shipyards located on the Northbank.

Big Cat Country's Alfie Crow got his hands on a promotional video showing a 3D model of the ownerโ€™s desired outcome for the development. Itโ€™s basically the park from Jurassic World, but you come to see the Floridians and light pylons:

As I said, it looks familiar:

Like any NFL owner worth his salt, Khanโ€™s plans appear contingent on a financial partnership with the teamโ€™s host city. According to Crow, Khan pitched his restoration proposal as a win-win for the Jaguars and the people of Jacksonville during his recent state of the franchise address:

"

The Shipyards would give Downtown Jacksonville the kind of iconic identity that many downtown districts in the United States enjoy and we currently lack. But it doesnโ€™t work or make sense if it doesnโ€™t provide jobs, boost our economy and self-confidence, stabilize the future of the Jaguars franchise and improve our overall quality of life. Our proposal to partner with the City of Jacksonville on this project will achieve this and more.

"

Jaguars president Mark Lamping echoed Khan's sentiments. Like the team's owner, he contends that an influx of circular boardwalks and pay-by-the-weight yogurt stores will finally put the Jaguars over the top:

"

We have been very clear that a stronger Jacksonville, and particularly a stronger downtown Jacksonville, will equate to a more stable and successful Jaguars franchise. The improvements to EverBank field last year speak to ensuring that downtown Jacksonville continues to be home to the NFL and the Jaguars, and to current and future major sporting and entertainment events.

"

And thereโ€™s the ultimatum, Jacksonville. If you wish to keep your beloved Jaguars, you must construct additional boardwalks/light pylons.

NFL owners: Theyโ€™re like pirates, but with keys to the city.
