Damian Lillard Drops Incredible Freestyle Rap About Growing Up in Oakland

Adam FromalFeb 13, 2015

For decades now, rap and the NBA have been inextricably intertwined, with each culture bleeding into the other.

Rappers want to play basketball and constantly drop the names of star players in their verses. On the flip side, those in the Association typically like to try their hand behind the mic. And some are far better than others.

Damian Lillard, who has previously made headlines for his "Four Bar Fridays," is most certainly better than others.

On Friday, the Portland Trail Blazers point guard was back to drop some new rhymes and show off his rap skills before putting the basketball ones on display in New York City during All-Star Weekend. His latest lyrical exploits came in the form of a freestyle on the famed Sway in the Morning Show on SiriusXM (h/t BlackSportsOnline.com).

How's that for impressive?

Not only are there some lyrical acrobatics in that freestyle, but Lillard also switches up the flow seamlessly on a number of occasions. Sway's title of that video, "Damian Lillard Is The Best Rapper In the NBA! Here's The Proof!" is pretty tough to argue with.

Plenty in the NBA have tried their hands in the studio. Cleveland Cavaliers guard Iman Shumpert even has his own album out. But Lillard took his rapping to the proverbial next level here, thrusting his name into a conversation that typically features Cedric Ceballos, Dana Barros, Chris Webber and sometimes Shaquille O'Neal

It's pretty impressive what he can do with more than just four bars.
