There is officially a new NXT women's champion.
Sasha Banks won Wednesday night's Fatal 4-Way match at TakeOver: Rival, defeating champion Charlotte, Becky Lynch and Bayley to capture the sought-after belt:
Unsurprisingly considering the amount of talent inside the ring, it was an entertaining battle with wire-to-wire action. Fellow women's wrestlers Emma and Dana Brooke applauded the match:
The quartet worked extremely well together, showing great chemistry and allowing every participant to make an impact on the match.
Charlotte and Lynch got in some really solid offense, Bayley had a couple of fantastic spots and terrific technical moves, and Banks finally ended it when she turned her cross-face submission on Charlotte into a roll up for the pin.
Bleacher Report's Mike Chiari put it simply:
There is no question that Banks is a worthy champion. She is unbelievably talented inside the ring, and it's not difficult to see her sky-high ceiling and immense potential. With Bayley and Lynch continuing to challenge her, the women's division is in a very good place right now.
As for Charlotte, it's the end of a remarkable run as champion, but there could be better things on the way. Ric Flair's daughter, who talked about beating both Natalya and Paige during the pre-show, could certainly be headed to The Show. Plenty of NXT champions have made the move to WWE after losing their belt, and it wouldn't be surprising if Charlotte made that leap to spark the Diva's division.
Her small hug of Banks seemed to represent a passing of the torch.
Either way, Wednesday's incredible match served as yet another reminder not only of NXT's great talent in the women's division, but also of the division's bright future.
