DeMarcus Cousins Goes on Tangent to Media After Game-Winning Buzzer-Beater
After sinking a game-winning shot Sunday night against the Phoenix Suns, DeMarcus Cousins didnโt feel much like answering questions.
Instead, the Sacramento Kings center went on a cryptic tangent in the Kings locker room about his struggles and the teamโs direction.
The Sacramento Bee's Jason Jones posted video of Cousinsโ postgame remarks. A reporter asked Cousins if he was excited after watching his dagger drop on the Suns. Boogie was not psyched. Rather, he was concerned with outside forces interrupting โGodโs planโ for the team.

โI ainโt pumped up,โ Cousins said. โIโve just got a lot on my mind. The crazy thing about it is, Iโve just got a question for yโall: How you gonna stop Godโs plan? How you gonna do that? Thatโs all I want to know. How you gonna stop Godโs plan?โ
Cousins continued, saying heโs stuck with the city through all the rough patches.
โMan, this city put me through so much, and Iโve stayed loyal to it the whole time. I just want to know how you gonna stop Godโs plan. God gives his hardest battles to his strongest soldiers. The marathon continues. Iโm out.โ
And just like that, Cousins was gone, leaving the reporting pool to answer its own questions.
The root of Cousinsโ frustration, it seems, are the rumors swirling around his alleged resistance to the Kingsโ potential hiring of George Karl, the former NBA head coach currently working as an ESPN basketball analyst.
ESPN and The Associated Press report that inside sources are claiming Cousins and his agents have made behind-the-scenes moves to block the Kings from hiring Karl.
The reason for this alleged blockade could stem from fatigue. The Kings fired head coach Michael Malone in December and promoted Corbin into the position. These moves allegedly occurred without the franchise notifying the players beforehand.
Another reason could be past issues between one of Cousinsโ agents and Karl. ESPN reports that Cousinsโ agent, Jarinn Akana, was demoted from assistant coach to team scout in 2005 when Karl took over as head coach of the Denver Nuggets.
Exactly what is eating Cousins remains unknown, but suffice to say, he doesnโt appear happy with the intrigue surrounding the Kings. He seems to have an idea of the direction the team should be heading in and does not appreciate outside forces tinkering with his notion.
Dan is on Twitter, keeping his hands off Godโs plan.
