Seahawks DE Michael Bennett Calls Eddie Lacy and Reporter 'Overweight'

Michael Bennett is many things, the foremost being a pass-rush artist and the second being a reliably entertaining interview. 

In the run-up to Sunday’s NFC Championship Game, the Seattle Seahawks defensive end held court with a group of reporters on the subject of Seattle’s upcoming bout with the Green Bay Packers.

Most notable from the interview was Bennett comparing Packers running back Eddie Lacy to a reporter in the cluster. KJR Seattle Sports Radio host Dave "Softy" Mahler asked Bennett how Lacy is different from other backs in the league, unknowingly inviting himself into Bennett’s standup routine.

KJR uploaded audio of the interview to its website (the exchange takes place at the two-minute, 58-second mark). Mahler, a sizable presence among the gathered press, walked right into Bennett’s crosshairs.

“How is Eddie Lacy kind of unique in just the regard that he’s different from guys you’ve seen before?” Mahler asked.

“Yeah, Eddie Lacy is kind of built like you, man,” Bennett said. “He’s slightly...slightly a bit...a bit overweight.” 

Laughter ensued, and Bennett went on to praise Lacy, who over the course of the 2014-15 season has battered his way through 1,139 of the most grueling rushing yards a running back can gain.

“He can run the ball really good, man,” Bennett said. “He breaks a lot of tackles. He does a lot, man. He’s just a good back. You know, any back that Nick Saban has coached in Alabama is gonna have that meanness and that streak to carry a load.”

Before the interview changed topics, Mahler wanted Bennett to know he’s dropped a few pounds.

“I’ve lost some weight,” Mahler said. “I appreciate you noticing that.”

“I’m just messing with you,” Bennett said.

Bennett and Mahler appear to be on good terms; however, the radio host may still be rebuilding bridges with the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel’s Tyler Dunne, who initially reported Bennett’s remarks.

Mahler tweeted that they’re good.
