Wenger: Agent's 2-Month Diagnosis Optimistic

Thursday, August 13

"His (Rosicky's) agent said he will be out for one or two months, but it will be longer. How long exactly, we don’t know yet," Arsene Wenger told Arsenal's official website.

Pavel Paska, Rosicky's agent, claimed on Wednesday his client would be out for a minimum of four weeks, although predicted his recovery time would be a little longer than that, according to the Guardian's David Hytner.

The 34-year-old suffered the injury during a Euro 2016 qualifier with the Czech Republic in June, a 2-1 loss against Iceland. He made no appearances for the Gunners in pre-season as a result.

Rosicky is little more than a squad option at this stage of his career, making just five Premier League starts in 2014-15, recorded by WhoScored.com. He remains a popular figure among the fans, and his versatility in midfield and leadership abilities mean he's still an important member of the dressing room.

This injury comes at a particularly bad time for the Gunners, with England international Jack Wilshere also sidelined with a hairline ankle fracture, per the Daily Mail's Oliver Todd. With Wilshere and Rosicky both unavailable, depth in central midfield already looks like it could be an issue just one game into the new season.

With several weeks remaining in the summer transfer window, you have to assume Wenger will at the very least consider adding another quality midfielder. The loss of Wilshere and Rosicky is another reminder injuries can strike at any time—and depth is the key to making a run at the Premier League title.
