Jimmy Haslam, Joe Thomas Comment on Johnny Manziel, Suspended Browns Players

Tim KeeneyDec 28, 2014

The Cleveland Browns' disappointing 2014 campaign ended with a warning shot from owner Jimmy Haslam.

Speaking after the team's 20-10 Week 17 loss to the Baltimore Ravens, Haslam essentially offered an ultimatum to the young players who have found themselves in the wrong headlines as of late, via the Akron Beach Journal's Nate Ulrich:

Browns Pro Bowl left tackle Joe Thomas also commented on the situation:

Just last week, quarterback Johnny Manziel, the Browns' polarizing first-round pick who has been heavily scrutinized for his off-the-field activities, admitted he needed "to take this a lot more seriously. It's a job for me now." But according to CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora, he was fined for showing up late to a treatment this weekend after reportedly throwing a party Friday night.

Wide receiver Josh Gordon, who was suspended for Sunday's season finale after missing a walk-through, was reportedly also at the party. Per La Canfora, cornerback Justin Gilbert is also on thin ice with the team after an underwhelming rookie campaign.

ESPN.com's Jerry Crasnick summed up how the trio is viewed right now:

The Browns haven't been to the playoffs since 2002 and have just one winning season during that span. A franchise desperately in need of a turnaround, Cleveland likely isn't excited about waiting around for younger players to mature.

There's no doubt that the Browns have talent throughout the roster, but Haslam and Co. seem to be growing tired of the antics and suspensions.

As such, the odds of a major roster shakeup for the Browns this offseason appear to be increasing.
