Brendan Haywood: The Accidental Media Mogul

You could make the case that Brendan Haywood getting injured last season was the best thing to ever happen to him. He went from a mouthy, better-late-than-never center on the worst team in the NBA, to an inexplicably reputable member of the media culture.

He got a blog on Yardbarker, put in work for Comcast SportsNet, and now we’re finding out that he will soon have a show on WJFK. This show, sources will soon confirm, will be brought to you by the letters W, T, and F.

Brendan Haywood is not funny, and intelligent without being engaging. Luckily, he’s cornered the market on controversial statements, thus making him perfect for local radio. It’s like he wants to be Gilbert Arenas so badly, and receives chance after chance to demonstrate this desire; all while ignoring the fact that he has virtually no swag off of a basketball court.

I’ll admit that this is nothing but hate, hate and more hate, but there is some truth to this. Nothing Haywood has ever said and very little he has ever done has made me think him to be more than a selfish opportunist. And the worst thing you can do for a guy like that is to give him a venue to hear himself talk.

WJFK, I hope this trip over the shark works out for you.
