Jones Injures Thigh vs. Burnley
Friday, Dec. 26
Brad Jones' Boxing Day outing was short-lived Friday as the Liverpool goalkeeper was lifted in the 16th minute due to injury.
Shortly after a shot from Burnley F.C. forward Danny Ings hit the woodwork, the 32-year-old backstop was removed from the contest in favor of Simon Mignolet, according to Liverpool's official Twitter account:
Per Ian Doyle of the Liverpool Echo, the keeper has a thigh injury:
Doyle also points out that Jones didn't make a move for the Ings shot that nearly put the Clarets ahead:
This season has been a highly disappointing one for the Reds, and goalkeeping has been a major issue with 24 goals allowed entering Matchday 18.
Mignolet has been Liverpool's starter for much of the season, but Jones was between the pipes Friday in hopes of providing a spark.
That obviously didn't work out, so the Reds must now rely on the Belgian veteran rediscovering his form.
