NBC's Golf Central Twitter feed shared details from Woods on how the pair connected:
Jason Sobel of the Golf Channel chimed in on the decision, noting that Como is following a long list of accomplished coaches who have had the unenviable task of trying to fix what ails Woods:
In August, Woods announced on his website that he was no longer working with Sean Foley. This came after he missed the cut at the PGA Championship earlier in the month and endured the worst season of his career with two missed cuts and one withdrawal in seven events.
Woods' swing has seemed to be a work in progress for some time now. If Como can give Woods the kind of consistency he's looking for from it, while minimizing the strain on Woods' knees, we could see a return to form for the legendary golfer. If not, it's likely that we'll see the same inconsistent performances that have defined Tiger's recent seasons on the Tour.
Either way, Como's work will be heavily scrutinized over the coming months.
Woods is expected to return to official competition on Dec. 3 at the Hero World Challenge event in Florida.
