NFL Odds: Week 3 Opening Point Spreads Favor Winless Colts, Saints

OddsShark.comSep 16, 2014

After a pair of disappointing losses to start the season, a trip to Jacksonville might be the tonic for the Indianapolis Colts, who opened as seven-point road favorites for their Week 3 matchup with the Jaguars.

The 0-2 Colts are coming off a 30-27 Monday night loss at home to the Philadelphia Eagles, in a game they led by double digits at halftime, marking the first time the Colts have lost back-to-back games with Andrew Luck at quarterback.

It also dooms their playoff chances, if historical stats for 0-2 teams hold up again in 2014.

However, the Colts’ struggles pale in comparison to the 0-2 Jaguars, who were soundly beaten in their first two games this season, including a 41-10 pounding at the hands of the Washington Redskins on Sunday, extending their current losing streak to five, 0-4-1 against the spread.

Indy has enjoyed recent success against the Jags, compiling a 5-2 record SU and ATS in their last seven visits to Jacksonville, where the Jaguars are 1-5-1 ATS in their last seven as home dogs according to the Odds Shark NFL Database.

The undefeated Buffalo Bills are pegged as early 2.5-point home favorites in Week 3 against the 1-1 San Diego Chargers, according to sportsbooks monitored by Odds Shark. Buffalo are 4-1 SU and ATS in its last five and a solid 5-1 ATS in their last six as home favorites.

San Diego is riding high following their 30-21 upset victory over the defending champion Seattle Seahawks, and head into Sunday afternoon’s Chargers vs. Bills matchup at Ralph Wilson Stadium on a 5-0 run ATS in their last five as road underdogs.

The 1-1 Seahawks will try to bounce back when they take on the 2-0 Denver Broncos in a rematch of last February’s Super Bowl. The two clubs enter the game deadlocked as 9-2 Super Bowl betting favorites according to sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark, but the Seahawks have the early edge in betting on Sunday’s matchup, favored by five points.

Aside from their 43-8 loss to the Seahawks in Super Bowl XLVIII, the Broncos have enjoyed recent success against Seattle, 5-2 SU and ATS in their last seven visits to Seattle, and 12-4 SU in their last 16 overall against their west coast rivals.

In other NFL action this week, the 2-0 Carolina Panthers will look to stay unbeaten when they welcome the 1-1 Pittsburgh Steelers as 3-point favorites, while the struggling 0-2 New Orleans Saints, opening as 9.5-point home favorites, hope to pick up their first win against the Minnesota Vikings.
