Anthony Joshua vs. Konstantin Airich: Winner, Scorecard and Analysis

Gianni VerschuerenSep 13, 2014

Anthony Joshua made quick work of Konstantin Airich, as the official stopped the fight halfway through the third round in favour of the 24-year-old Brit on Saturday in Manchester, England.

The undefeated heavyweight was never expected to have much difficulty against his Kazakhstan-born opponent, and he dominated Airich from the opening bell to win both rounds before the TKO in the third.

Airich became the first of Joshua's opponents to make it out of the second round, but the youngster unleashed a flurry of power shots in the third. Airich went down once and managed to get up again, but after a devastating right hook to the chin, the official stepped in, just as the corner got ready to throw in the towel.

There was one scary moment when Joshua landed a late shot after Airich went down for the first time, as shared by ByTheMin Boxing, but the official let the British behemoth off with a warning.

Joshua came out with patience in the first round, staying light on his feet and using his tremendous size advantage to go to work with his jab. Airich took several big shots but landed one or two significant punches to the body, per Behind The Gloves:

The undefeated local opened up in the second round and stunned his German opponent on several occasions, but to his credit, Airich kept moving well and even tried to counter on several occasions—to no avail, per BTM:

Joshua's power really shone through in the third round, however, when he launched several strong combinations. A big right hand took Airich down for the first time, and the fight already appeared to be over. Sky Sports News shared this image of the impact:

A second combo put the veteran on the ropes, and it quickly became clear that he wouldn't find a way to escape Joshua's clutches. The official stepped in, and rightly so.

Radio Yorkshire's Phil Seymour was quite impressed with Joshua:

Saturday Night Boxing's Adam Abramowitz loved his demeanor after the fight, when he was calm and poised as ever:

The result means that Joshua is still unbeaten after eight fights, with every single bout ending before the scheduled distance. He'll fight Denis Bakhtov for the WBC international heavyweight title next, and Boxing Memes couldn't stop themselves:

The 6'6" Olympic gold medalist is viewed as a potential world champion—perhaps the next great heavyweight—and on Saturday, he did nothing to question such a future.

The biggest obstacle for his development remains finding fighters who are both able to give him more than just a handful of rounds and willing to step into the ring with one of the most physically imposing boxers we've seen in years.
