Many were surprised when Brooke Hogan—daughter of wrestling legend Hulk Hogan—ended her engagement to former Dallas Cowboys center Phil Costa last November. As it turns out, the Hulkster himself had something to do with it.
According to Shan & RJ on 105.3 The Fan in North Texas, the six-time WWE Champion admitted that he and Costa didn't see eye to eye.
I love the Dallas Cowboys, been a fan forever. But, my daughter was engaged to one of those guys and he didn't walk-the-walk and talk-the-talk. I put a bullet in that really quick. There was no way my daughter was going to marry somebody that I don't like that got me mad, or has got in my face.
The Immortal One then went on to suggest that Costa would have suffered the same fate as Andre the Giant at WrestleMania III had he attempted to throw down.
"There was a little run in with only one of the Cowboys," Hogan said. "But you know what, he knew better than to step up cause he would have gotten slammed just like Andre the Giant."
Neither Brooke nor Costa have commented since Hogan's revelation, but that isn't a surprise considering the fact that the former Cowboy has been laying low over the past couple months.
After signing a two-year contract with the Indianapolis Colts during the offseason, Costa shockingly retired at just 26 years of age. Per Brandon George of The Dallas Morning News, Costa cited the grind of the NFL season as the main reason behind his decision.
"Unfortunately, the day-to-day physical rigor of the NFL season has taken a toll on my body and has been a driving force behind my decision," Costa said. ... "As I look forward to the next chapter of my life, I will always be grateful for the opportunity to have played in the league."
Did Hogan cross the line by publicly criticizing Costa?
Costa's retirement is ironic considering the fact that Hogan is still going strong at 60. He is no longer an active in-ring performer, but he is a key ambassador for WWE and makes appearances for the company when needed.
Hogan and his daughter are close as evidenced by the fact that they worked together as on-screen characters while in TNA. With that in mind, it shouldn't come as a shock that Hulk's opinion influenced Brooke.
Some might argue that Hogan shouldn't have meddled, but it is admirable that he wants what is best for his daughter.
If there is any bad blood remaining between Hogan and Costa, perhaps the Hulkster could petition Vince McMahon for a match at WrestleMania XXXI.
As things currently stand, though, Hogan verbal atomic leg drop on Costa may be enough.
