Destination X is one of the biggest shows of the year for TNA, and Thursday’s special episode of Impact Wrestling will live up to the expectations and showcase why the weekly broadcast is still one of the most entertaining shows on television.
With Austin Aries cashing in his X-Division Championship last week, he will be rewarded with a TNA World Heavyweight Championship match against current titleholder Bobby Lashley in the main event.
Add in the reunion of Matt and Jeff Hardy and their TNA Tag Team Championship bout against The Wolves, and the stacked card for Destination X will make this one of the best episodes of Impact Wrestling in a long time.
Here is all the vital viewing information for Thursday’s broadcast and a full preview of the show.
Where: Manhattan Center, New York City
When: Thursday, July 31, at 9 p.m. ET (pre-taped)
Watch: Spike TV
Austin Aries Cashes in Option C
Austin Aries, former world champion and arguably the most talented all-around performer on the roster, beat former X-Division champion Sanada for the title earlier this month to earn the opportunity to exercise Option C.
After director of wrestling operations Kurt Angle asked for his decision, Aries handed over his X-Division Championship and was awarded a match against Lashley for the world title on this Thursday’s Destination X episode of Impact Wrestling.
Aries and the X-Division are two of the biggest reasons TNA has been a success over the years, and both will be on full display this week.
Question on Everybody's Mind: Who Walks out of NYC World Champion?
As much as Aries is the superior performer in every aspect of the sport—sans standing there looking strong—TNA has done a great job building Lashley as The Destroyer and will likely let him hold the title until Bound For Glory.
While Aries will likely take the loss in the main event, he will still steal the show.
When given the opportunity, Aries will use his unmatched speed, raw power and athleticism to carry a big man like Lashley through a main event match. Jeff Hardy did the same two weeks ago, and Aries will make the champion look strong while still ensuring Aries is the man everyone is talking about at the end of the show.
Hype Meter: 4 out of 5 Future Main Event Previews
There is always a chance TNA could give Aries the title Thursday and let the cashing in of the X-Division title remain unblemished, but the storyline is more intriguing if he takes the loss. Not only does it give Aries a motivation to get back into the title picture, but it also sets the stage for what could be a main event match at Bound for Glory.
If Aries dominates in the bout and the crowd is firmly on his side, the officials backstage could finally realize that he is the right person to hold the title heading into an important time for the company.
Lashley is a great transitional champion and has serious heat with the fans in New York City, but Aries has the ability in the ring and on the mic to carry Impact Wrestling. It’s a long shot, but Thursday’s main event could be the preview of the Bound for Glory main event.

The Hardys Reunion, X-Division Resurgence and Dixie Carter’s Posse
Besides the focus on Aries, many hardcore wrestling fans have turned their attention to the tag team championship match between The Hardys and The Wolves. The two teams have never faced off, and the in-ring ability of each duo should make this one of the best televised matches fans will see all year.
Most fans have seen what Davey Richards and Eddie Edwards bring to the table as champions, and Jeff Hardy proved his ability in the world championship match two weeks ago, but the ultimate X-factor is Matt Hardy.
Matt has been keeping himself busy on the independent scene. While many fans will view him as an afterthought in this match, he will be a serious contributor to this bout and will stun many of the fans at home if he brings the same intensity and dedication he showed over the last several years.
The Wolves should win this match.
Question on Everybody's Mind: Will the X-Division Resurgence Continue Past Destination X?
It wouldn’t be Destination X without a series of fast-paced X-Division matches. This week’s show will feature a trio of 3-Way matches that will act as qualifiers for next week’s X-Division Championship bout.
The three matches are as follows: Low Ki vs. Manik vs. DJ Z; Sanada vs. Brian Cage vs. Crazzy Steve; Samoa Joe vs. Tigre Uno vs. Homicide. With some of the most talented workers in the company going head-to-head-to-head, this should be an amazing showcase of the skilled athletes on the roster.
The stage has been set for Low Ki, Sanada and Samoa Joe to win their respective matches, but the winner of the resulting Triple Threat between those men is anyone’s guess. As much as TNA has built Low Ki to look unstoppable during his return, Samoa Joe is one of the top stars in the company and should go on to win next week.
The X-Division looks very promising.
Hype Meter: 4 out of 5 Dixie Carter Promos
Dixie Carter is one of the most enjoyable heels in wrestling today. She is not looking to be the cool villain or something she is not. Dixie is embracing her "bad guy" role, and it is drawing serious heat from the fans in New York City.
After bringing out two former WWE Superstars last week—Snitsky and Rycklon Stephens—the fans are incredulous about how oblivious she is and are yearning more than ever to see the culmination of this storyline. Most wrestling fans want to see Dixie go through a table at this point.
Dixie and Bully Ray will inevitably have their segment on this show, but the key will be not overdoing it. Thursday’s episode is about the X-Division, so the writers must do enough to further the storyline without overshadowing the reason for the special event.
