Roger Federer Denies Andy Roddick...On Many Occasions
492/156 win to loss ratio, 27 career titles and $15,860,816 worth of prize money. Not a bad career for Andy Roddick, but could it have been a whole lot better?
I was taking a skim through A-Rod's ATP profile this afternoon, and managed to glance at his abysmal record against Roger Federer in the process.
In 2003 Roddick lifted the US Open title, and many thought that with his serve, power and determination, he could be a true champion. Yet after almost six years without a major, the question has to be asked, is he just another one-slam-wonder?
Roddick fancied his chances at Wimbledon in 2003, and many others backed the American too, but the start of a miserable on court relationship with the Swiss genius was only just beginning.
Roger Federer demolished Roddick in the semi-finals, and looking at the other contenders bar Federer that year, you cant help but feel Andy was almost certain to lift his second slam.
In the same year he suffered two more semi-final defeats at the hands of Federer, one in the Canada Masters Series and one in Houston at the all important Masters Cup.
The defeats were racking up, and between 2004-2006 the American lost six finals to Federer, two of which were at Wimbledon and one in the US Open.
Not to mention six quarter final exits against him to date.
Most recently he was defeated in yet another semi-final by the Swiss, the Australian Open of this year.
Take Federer out of the equation and Roddick could have racked up at least five or six more slams and plenty of Masters Series in the process.
And with another Final against the Swiss tomorrow you just cant help but think Andy Roddick will be denied yet again.
