Internet Comes Up Big with Tim Howard Memes After USMNT Loss to Belgium

Tim Howard officially became a folk hero on Tuesday.

The U.S. men’s national soccer team goalie had one of the finest games of his career, stopping 16 shots in the team's round-of-16 loss to Belgium in the 2014 FIFA World Cup.

It was a performance for the ages from Howard, and the denizens of the Internet came up with a “ThingsTimHowardCouldSave” meme and hashtag commemorating the goalkeeper’s excellence.

Their work included a number of Photoshopped pictures of Howard stopping various historical and pop culture calamities.

Calling the results “beautiful” wouldn’t quite capture it. 

For starters, Howard could have stopped Ned Stark’s beheading.

Mass extinction? Not in Howard’s house.

Neo learned most of his moves from Howard, who would have saved the planet from a Matrix takeover in the first place.

With one hand, Howard could have pushed the Titanic up and out of the danger zone.

My childhood would have been a lot happier had Disney worked a bearded goalkeeper into the mix.

I'm confident Luis Suarez would have the teeth saved out of his mouth if he ever tried biting a member of the USMNT. 

You get the idea. Tim Howard is a demigod among mere mortals, and if anyone on the USMNT deserves a hardy, over-the-top congratulation after this World Cup, it’s the bearded man in goal.
