In 1951, Edward R. Murrow, NPR’s avante-garde host invited Americans from all walks of life to write essays about their personal philosophies and core values that guided their daily lives for a radio series called “This I Believe.”
In its four year run on NPR the series received thousands of compositions from people in a movement that stretched from sea to shining sea and everywhere in between.
While the series has since concluded the assignment lives on at the This I Believe website. There you can browse through submitted essays and create your own belief statement.
