The 2014 ESPY Awards will feature 33 categories highlighted by the honors of Best Male Athlete, Best Female Athlete and Best Team. This year's edition of the award show will mark the 22nd time ESPN has brought together the best in sports under one roof.

Drake will take the hosting reigns from Jon Hamm, who did a solid job last year in what's a tricky position. The rapper is a noted sports fan, although sometimes it's hard to nail down exactly what teams he roots for from week to week.

After it was announced he would handle the gig, he took to Twitter and called it an "honor:"

The ESPYS will once again emanate from the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles, California. The show is scheduled for July 16 at 9 p.m. ET on ESPN.

Since the nominees were announced athletes have already started to express their reactions. They range from sheer joy to disappointment with some lobbying for votes already mixed in as the fans will decide all of the winners.

NASCAR driver Jimmie Johnson, who captured his sixth Sprint Cup championship last season, falls into the latter category:

American Paralympian Tatyana McFadden was clearly happy to get nominated:

Then there's American swimmer Jessica Hardy, who believes athletes in her sport were overlooked for their accomplishments over the past year:

While the winners of the awards are often debatable, which isn't a surprise given the nature of fan voting, it's more about the event than anything else. Finding a brief break in the sports schedule to get so many big names from across the sports spectrum together is rare.

Voting is underway on the ESPYS' official site and will continue up until the start of the show. There are certainly some highly competitive categories, so let's check out the nominees fans will get to choose from this time around.
