John Daly Estimates He Gambled Away $55 Million in Less Than 2 Decades

Kyle NewportMay 30, 2014

John Daly loves to gamble, but it hasn't been very kind to him over the years.

In an interview on Yahoo'sย In Depth With Graham Bensinger, Daly claimed that he lost somewhere between $55 million and $57 million from 1991 to 2007. For those who are wondering, that equates to a loss of about $3.4 million per year.

The 48-year-old originally believed that he had only gambled away between $20 million and $25 million during that span. He was shocked when he saw just how money he had actually lost after going through all his tax records while writing his book.

In the interview, Daly claims that he would play seven simultaneous hands of blackjack for $5K to $15K per hand and $5K slot machines.

Given that it's a staggering number, one might expect the golfer to say that he regrets gambling. Although he admitted that he lost the money because of "stupidity," he looked at it in a different way than some might.

"I did it. I moved on from it," Daly said. "I had a lot of fun doing it."

It was a costly lesson, but it looks like Daly has moved on from his losses.
