Report: WWE Questioning Decision to Have Brock Lesnar Win at WrestleMania XXX?

Brock Lesnar’s victory over The Undertaker at WrestleMania XXX was easily one of the most shocking WWE moments in years. The stunned faces of the fans at ringside as Lesnar got the pin said it all: You could have heard a pin drop in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome when the result was announced.

It was the most memorable part of the show and got absolutely everyone in the industry talking. The win also gave Lesnar’s disappointing WWE run a much-needed boost: He left New Orleans as one of the biggest and most dominant monster heels the business has ever seen.

Paul Heyman is still bragging about his client’s win in promos, too, and probably will be until the end of time. Credit to the company: It’s getting all the mileage it can out of this.

But are people in WWE beginning to rethink their decision to have the former UFC star end wrestling’s most famous winning streak? Per a recent report, this may be the case.

As Dave Meltzer notes in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter (subscription required), many privately feel the wrong call was made, although internal politics may be preventing them from explicitly saying so:

Right now there are people in the inner circle who believe Vince McMahon didn’t make the decision for Undertaker to lose at the last minute, but simply waited until the last minute to let anyone know. There is still a lot of internal belief that it was the wrong call, basically I’m told that’s the majority viewpoint but nobody can publicly say it, particularly since there is no indication Undertaker won’t be back for next year’s WrestleMania.

Personally, I think people in WWE are being too critical. Sure, the buildup wasn't great, but Lesnar going over was ultimately the right move for the company’s future.

The Undertaker could have kept going for another couple of years, but what would have been the point? Especially since, as the disappointing match with Lesnar illustrated, Undertaker isn’t the wrestler he once was.

So what do you think? Did McMahon make a mistake? Or will the decision to end The Streak pay out over time?
